A New Way In
The Alone with English podcast is a quiet, thoughtful space to reconnect with your language journey.
It offers company, encouragement, and specialist tools for making English feel less onerous and more generous — not through shortcuts or hacks, but through reflection, creativity, and emotional honesty.
This podcast is a new way into English —
into your voice, your rhythm, your kind of progress.
Because when language is all about communication, doing it alone can feel deeply isolating.
It’s frustrating, vulnerable — and on a deeper level, it can leave us unconvinced we’re really getting anywhere.
Alone with English is a place to pause, reflect, and find a new way forward.
One that feels like you.
Listen to the full series now, and take what works for you — one small shift at a time.

About Us
We’re Ruth and Jennie — two English coaches who care deeply about how people experience language learning.
But more than that, we’ve lived language learning ourselves.
We’ve had days that left us frustrated to tears — caught in the gap between who we are and what we could say.
Wanting to show up with our voice, our humour, our full selves — and not having the language to do it.
Feeling like a shadow of who we are.
We know what it’s like to learn a foreign language abroad.
To have so many opportunities to practise — and still feel overwhelmed (all the while thinking, this should be easy — I’m here, I’m immersed in it).
We don’t underestimate the stress of navigating unfamiliar cultural rules while desperately hoping not to make a mistake when you speak.
(How do French women tie their scarves so neatly?
What do you mean I should use a knife and fork to eat a burger?)
You need to be extra brave just to go shopping.
Extra brave to speak at a party.
Extra brave all day, every day — and that kind of bravery can become deeply lonely.
We made this podcast because we know that if you never feel good in the language you need to speak, it traps you into silence.
Of course, English lessons can help you gain more language, but here, in this podcast, we want to help shift the deeper emotional weight:
from inadequacy, stress, or guilt
into curiosity, hope, and excitement.
We know: that’s the shift you need to keep your English progress on track, both sustainably and healthily.
There are hundreds of podcasts offering learning tips.
We designed this one to be your friend on the journey.
